My sister applying henna to my belly |

Today, I was fortunate enough to spend a few hours with some very fabulous women as we celebrated the last few weeks that I have left of this pregnancy. I am so grateful that my sister wanted to organize a mother blessing for me. I have been looking forward to this day for quite a while, and even though there were some chaotic moments with the kids, it didn't disappoint. These fantastic mothers in my life have left me feeling not only loved and supported, but renewed for this last bit of pregnancy. Amazingly, I did not really cry, although there were moments that I was sure I was about to burst into tears. From the meaningful quotes on the fabric for the support banner, to the thoughtful reasons why each person chose the bead they chose, I am not sure how I managed not to! I absolutely love the thought that was put into choosing each and every item. I wish I had written down some of the reasons because I just know I will forget. My sister gave me some beads from a jingly anklet she wears, my mother in law gave me pearls from a necklace she had given her mom, and my mom gave me a newborn gown she had worn as a child and used on us girls as her fabric. And that was just the beginning. I am overwhelmed by the love and support that I feel. My sister is taking the beads and fabric home to string them together, and I can't wait to see the final products. I will wear the necklace until and through labour, and hang up the banner during labour so that I can feel the strength of all these strong mothers in my life as I go through the transition from being a mother of one, to a mother of two. I do wish that we had taken some pictures of the day, but I just didn't think about it until everyone had left. I was just too busy feeling loved by everyone here.
We had planned to do henna on my belly during the mother blessing, but we neglected to read the directions of the henna until one hour before everyone was supposed to arrive. Apparently, henna paste needs to sit for about 12 hours before being used...oops! But we improvised and my sister just did it later that day. It was actually quite relaxing to have just her and my mom in the room. And baby-to-be was quite active during the application of it, pushing himself right out! Here's the final product...I think she did a great job!
Thank you for coming to all those who were able to come, and to those who were unable to come but wanted to, thank you for your thoughts. Thank you also to those who sent me items via my sister and in the mail. It touches me that you thought of me and wanted to support me when you couldn't be there. I feel so blessed to have so many fabulous women in my life. I can't even begin to explain how appreciative I am that you all took time out of your day to come and support me. I now feel refreshed and renewed for the final leg of this pregnancy!
