Worthless Election?

Sitting here with my husband watching the election results, I wonder whether or not it was worth casting a vote today. My vote did not get anybody elected, nor did it change the government in any way. It is easy to see how so many people can become disenfranchised and just give up on politics. I can't do that, though, no matter how 'worthless' my vote was. I think it is so important to get out there, inform yourself, and vote. So many people died and suffered for us women to have the vote, and too many women forget those sacrifices. Too many people forget the sacrifices of our veterans who fought for us to have the right to democracy. Are the results of this election due to poor voter turnout? The results are not completely in yet, so this could be part of the reason. If it is, how do we increase voter turnout? Are they due to people just 'going with the flow'? I read one quote where someone said that "the evil you know is better than the evil that you don'...

Parks for Paws

Image
I realize that it is only minutes after my last post, but I needed to share my day and the ideas I had during it. Today, we took our 5 month old puppy to a new dog park in the city. As of yet, we had only brought her to Terwilleger Park, and I have come to love the place. I originally was against off leash parks as there are so many irresponsible dog owners out there. After experiencing them, I have changed my mind. I do still believe there are a lot of irresponsible dog owners; with some simple precautions, however, a dog park can be a great experience. Leaving your puppy on leash will help, and I definitely suggest this no matter the age or temperament of the dog. You never know how your dog will react around another dog, even if your dog is the most friendliest dog. As our dog trainer once said, dogs are no different than humans when it comes to getting along with others. A dog may get along with one dog one day or even minute, and the next they can get frustrated or annoyed and tha...

My First Time

As I sit here thinking about what to put into this very first post, I realize that this is actually my first time blogging for the sake of blogging. My very first (and only) blog was for a class in university on using technology in the classroom. My posts on that blog were forced out so that I could get the marks required. Now, I sit here trying to figure out what I should actually include in my blog. What should it be about? Should I write about how I enjoy scrapbooking and include my ideas for the hobby? Should I write about being a substitute teacher and the experiences I have stepping into other people's classrooms? Or should I write about my puppy and the endless tales of training and puppyhood? I do not know the answer. I suppose that I will figure it out in time, and until then, I will ramble until I do so.  Until I do figure it out, I suppose I should tell a little bit about myself. As I have already mentioned, I am a substitute teacher (who will hopefully receive a fu...
